FAIRFAX, Va. – Although the seniors of the Virginia Commonwealth University women’s track & field have taken center stage this season, the youngsters have shown flashes of brilliance.
This past weekend was one of those instances.
Sophomore Quina Fortune (New Orleans, La.) captured a victory in the 200-meter dash to lead the Rams at the George Mason Classic on Saturday afternoon.
Fortune crossed the finish line in 24.53 to lead the pack. Her time was less than .60 seconds off a NCAA East Regional qualifying time.
Sophomore Stephanie Newing (Virginia Beach, Va.) grabbed a fourth-place finish in the pole vault, clearing 10’ 11 ¾” at the meet.
Freshman Jazlynn Finney (Leesburg, Va.) also earned a top-five finish with a fifth-place showing in the 100-meter dash.
