RICHMOND, Va. – Sophomore Kateryna Yergina (Kiev, Ukraine) (pictured, above) and junior Laura Burns (Hertford, England) were selected to Women’s Tennis All-State Teams Tuesday by the Virginia Sports Information Directors (VaSID).
Yergina was named All-State First Team and collected her first VaSID honor following an outstanding sophomore campaign. Yergina overcame an injured ankle late in the season to post a 16-10 singles record, including a 14-9 mark in dual matches. She was 11-7 on the No. 2 singles court for the Rams, who reached the NCAA Tournament for the fourth consecutive season.
Burns was tabbed All-State Second Team after she finished with a 23-5 singles record. Burns, an All-CAA Second Team singles pick, was 20-5 in dual matches.
William & Mary’s Katarina Zoricic scooped VaSID Player of the Year honors, while Richmond’s Mark Wesselink was named Coach of the Year.
