RICHMOND, Va. – Freshman Ana Bara cruised past a ranked opponent for the second straight day to highlight Virginia Commonwealth University’s 6-0 romp over South Florida Sunday at Thalhimer Tennis Center.
VCU improved to 8-4 with the victory, while South Florida fell to 0-5.
Bara, 12-8 in singles play this season, routed No. 121 Jessica Zok, 6-1, 6-2 on the No. 1 court. On Saturday, she earned a straight sets victory over Virginia Tech’s Inga Beerman, who was ranked 125th.
Ana Bara also teamed with her twin sister Alex for an 8-2 win over Zok and Iari Rai at No. 1 doubles.
Other winners for the Rams included junior Laura Burns, who moved to 12-2 this year with a 6-1, 6-2 defeat of Natalia Guevara at the fourth position. Burns is 9-2 in dual matches.
VCU returns to action on Wednesday, Feb. 25 when it hosts Colonial Athletic Association-rival Old Dominion at the Thalhimer Tennis Center at 3 p.m.
