YERGINA NETS ALL-CAA TENNIS HONORS

NORFOLK, Va. – Sophomore Kateryna Yergina represented Virginia Commonwealth University on the All-Colonial Athletic Association First Team, the league announced at the annual tennis awards banquet Thursday.
Yergina was selected for singles play, where she has been outstanding this season. The sophomore from Kiev, Ukraine is 15-8 in singles action, including 13-7 this spring. Yergina is 10-5 at the No. 2 singles position. Yergina was also picked for the conference’s second team for doubles play. Last year, Yergina was the league’s Rookie of the Year and earned an All-CAA Second Team citation.
Sophomore Laura Burns was one of three Rams to garner second team singles status. Burns, who is 21-5 this year in singles play, also collected a second team doubles nod. Burns and Yergina have combined for an 11-5 record in doubles action.
Freshman Alex Bara and junior Olena Leonchuk were also selected All-CAA Second Team singles. Freshman Ana Bara was named third team singles.
The Rams, who have drawn the No. 2 seed, will take on No. 7 Drexel in the CAA quarterfinals on Friday, April 17 at 2 p.m.
