RICHMOND, Va. – Virginia Commonwealth University sophomore Laura Burns (pictured) has been named Colonial Athletic Association’s Co-Player of the Week, the league announced Tuesday. Burns will share the award with Delaware’s Ivana Petrich.

Burns went 2-0 in singles action, including a come-from-behind victory over Klaudyna Kasztelaniec in the Rams’ 4-3 win over William & Mary March 31. Burns’ triumph clinched the VCU win. After dropping the first set to Kasztelaniec, 3-6, Burns ripped off 6-2 and 6-3 victories to close the match.

It was the Rams’ first win over the defending CAA Champions since 2006.

A native of Hertford, England, Burns also defeated Petra Santini of Boston University, 6-3, 6-2 on Sunday, March 29.

Burns is 19-4 in singles action this season, including 16-4 in dual matches.
