FORMER AND PRESENT RAM FACE OFF IN CYPRUS CUP FINAL
RICHMOND, Va. – In most college sports, reaching the professional level is the ultimate goal of most student-athletes. In soccer, playing for a national team and earning caps on the international level is the ultimate honor.
That’s why this past week has been so big for the Virginia Commonwealth University women’s soccer program, as it had a former and current player earn caps for their national teams at the 2010 Cyprus Cup.
Hayley Moorwood, who played two seasons with the Black & Gold, and current Ram Myriam Bouchard (Quebec City, Quebec) are representing New Zealand and Canada, respectively.
The two members of the VCU family will now faceoff in the Cyprus Cup final after Canada went a perfect 3-0 in group play, while Moorwood served as a New Zealand captain and helped her squad go 2-0-1 to reach the finals.
On March 1st, Bouchard became the first Ram to ever earn an international cap while still a member of the Black & Gold, starting and playing all 90 minutes in Canada’s 2-1 win over South Africa.
The showdown between VCU’s past and present starts at 10 a.m. local time on Wednesday.
