POWER'S EIGHT-POINT WEEK EARNS HER RAM OF THE WEEK HONORS Senior's offensive outburst helps Black and Gold pick up first two wins of 2008
RICHMOND, Va. - Coming into the weekend, the Virginia Commonwealth University women's soccer team had only found the back of the net on one occassion. That total quickly changed most in part to senior midfielder Stephanie Power (Darmouth, Nova Scotia), who tallied three goals and two assists to help the Rams pick up their first two wins of the 2008 campaign. Her outstanding week has earned the veteran Ram of the Week honors.
In Friday's 3-0 road win over Loyola, Power hooked up with classmate Megan Flanagan (Franktown, Colo.) to give the Rams a 2-0 halftime lead and later she found the back of the net on her own to put the game out of reach.
Sunday's 3-0 victory over Bucknell had Power's name all over it as she banged home the first two goals of the day before the Bison battled back to even the score with a goal in the 84th minute of action. The Black and Gold would answer back less than 30 seconds later as Power unleashed a shot that sophomore Laurel Pastor (Springfield, Va.) headed past the Bucknell goalkeeper to give VCU the 3-2 victory.
Power and the Rams are now 2-4-0 on the season and return to the pitch on Friday evening as they host Wofford College in a 7 p.m. contest at VCU's Sports Backers Stadium.
