TRIO OF RAMS EARN ACADEMIC ACCOLADES

RICHMOND, Va. – Excelling in the classroom is the foundation of a successful student-athlete.

That’s certainly true for Virginia Commonwealth University women’s soccer standouts Stephanie Power (Dartmouth, Nova Scotia), Amanda Adams (Salem, Va.) and Michelle Schuler (Skillman, N.J.) as the trio was named to the NSCAA/adidas Scholar All-East Region Team for their academic achievements.

Power, who finished the semester with a 3.44 GPA, earned third team recognition.  In her final season with the Rams, the senior journalism major scored five goals and registered nine assists for 19 points, tied for second-most of the team.  In addition, Power earned All-Colonial Athletic Association recognition three out of her four years with the Black and Gold.

Meanwhile, Adams and Schuler received honorable mention accolades.  Adams, a junior elementary education major, registered a perfect 4.0 in the classroom.  The defender appeared in all 19 games last year for the Rams with 13 starts.  Schuler, who compiled a 3.38 GPA while pursuing a degree in accounting, started 17 games for the Rams in her senior campaign.  The pair helped anchor the VCU back line that produced four shutouts, three of which came in conference play.
