WALLER EARNS SECOND-STRAIGHT CAA CO-PLAYER OF THE WEEK HONOR

RICHMOND, Va. – Virginia Commonwealth University Women’s Basketball senior guard Kita Waller was named Colonial Athletic Association Co-Player of the Week for the second week in a row following her performance in the Rams’ last two games.

Waller averaged 20.5 points, 6.0 rebounds, 3.5 steals and 2.5 assists in a pair of VCU games last week. The Gainesville, Ga., native registered a game-high 18 points with eight rebounds, six steals and two assists against James Madison on Thursday. Waller then led all scorers with 23 points and contributed four rebounds and three assists to help VCU defeat Old Dominion on the road Sunday for the first time since 1973 and move back into a share of first place atop the CAA standings.

Along with teammate D’Andra Moss, Waller surpassed the 1,000 career point plateau against the Lady Monarchs. It was the second time in the last three seasons VCU has had two players record their 1,000th point in the same game.

Waller has tied or surpassed her previous career high of 23 points in three of the Rams’ last four games. She poured in a school record-tying 35 points against UNC Wilmington, 28 against Georgia State and 23 at Old Dominion.

Waller has started 13-straight games after recovering from a knee injury she suffered during preseason workouts. Since joining Head Coach Beth Cunningham’s starting five at Longwood on Dec. 28, 2009, Waller is averaging 17.4 points, 5.3 rebounds, 3.6 steals and 2.6 assists per game. She is shooting .478 from the field during the 13-game stretch.
