CUNNINGHAM SELECTED AS PART OF USA BASKETBALL COMMITTEE
Times-Dispatch Coach of the Year named to Junior National Team Committee

COLORADO SPRINGS, COLO. – The 2008-2009 season will be a year to remember for Head Coach Beth Cunningham of the Virginia Commonwealth University women’s basketball team.

Not only did she guide her Rams to a school-record tying 26 wins, not only did she take the Black & Gold to the first-ever NCAA Tournament appearance in school history, she is now a part of serving her country of sorts after being named to the USA Basketball Women’s Junior National Team Committee yesterday.

Just one day after being named the coach of the year in the state of Virginia by the Richmond Times-Dispatch, Cunningham received word that she will serve on the committee for the 2009-2012 quadrennium.

Cunningham joins NCAA representative Sue Donohoe (Vice President for Division I Women’s Basketball), University of California Head Coach Joanne Boyle, Penn State University Head Coach Coquese Washington and Connie Yori, Head Coach of the University of Nebraska.

The former standout player at Notre Dame will serve as the Athlete Representative, due to her time spent on the 1999 USA Pan American Games Team.
