VCU VOLLEYBALL HIRES ASSISTANT COACH PAVLOV
RICHMOND, Va. – Virginia Commonwealth University Head Coach James Finley announced the appointment of Assistant Coach Antonio Pavlov Friday.
“VCU is fortunate to add Antonio Pavlov to our athletic family,” Finley said. “He brings a depth of coaching ability, maturity, leadership and playing experience, which will enable him to provide great technical training to our program. We’re excited about building the future of VCU Volleyball together.”
Pavlov carries the wealth of nearly 20 years of coaching experience in the United States and Europe.
Prior to joining the Rams’ staff, Pavlov served as an assistant coach at the University of Arkansas-Little Rock from 2003 through the 2007 season. In addition to his coaching duties with UALR, Pavlov served as recruiting coordinator, as well as a multitude of other administrative duties. During his tenure, the Trojans went 94-54, including a 22-9 mark in 2007.
Pavlov has served as head coach of a number of teams, including the Men’s National Team of the Republic of Malta (2000-02) – where he led the squad to a fourth place finish at the 2001 Small Nations’ Olympics, the country’s best since 1963. He also led the women’s club VC Kydon of Crete, Greece (1992-94) and the junior men’s squad VC Slavia of Sofia, Bulgaria (1988-92), among others.
Additionally, Pavlov held the position of Secretary General for the Bulgarian Volleyball Federation from 1998-99. At the time of his appointment, Pavlov was the youngest secretary general of any national volleyball federation in the world. Under his direction, the Bulgarian National Team placed fourth at the World League’s Finals in Italy in 1998.
