RICHMOND, Va. – Virginia Commonwealth University junior middle blocker Ivana Rich (Cumberland, Va./Cumberland) (pictured) has been named Colonial Athletic Association Player of the Week, the league announced Monday.
Rich was the catalyst behind VCU’s 3-2, come-from-behind victory over William & Mary Oct. 16 in Williamsburg, Va. The win moved the Rams into a second place tie in the CAA standings and avenged an earlier loss to the Tribe.
Facing a 2-1 deficit, Rich provided six of her 11 kills in the final two sets to rally VCU. In the fifth and deciding set, the 5-11 junior recorded four kills, one block and one service ace. Rich hit .474 for the match.
Rich currently leads the CAA in blocks per set, averaging 1.25. In addition, she is hitting .275, which ranks eighth in the league, and is averaging 1.92 kills per set.
The Rams return to action on Tuesday, Oct. 21 when they head to Philadelphia, Pa. to take on Temple at 12 p.m. in non-conference play.
