WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – Junior Kelsie Clegg (Boise, Idaho) provided 11 kills and five blocks as Virginia Commonwealth University dispatched Winston-Salem State, 3-0 (25-11, 25-14, 25-14), Wednesday at the C.E. Gaines Center.

Winston-Salem State (1-15) had no answer for the 6-foot-5 Clegg, who hit .733 and didn’t record an error in 15 attempts.

VCU (10-5) overwhelmed WSSU on nearly every front, hitting .312 on the night. The Black and Gold never trailed in the match and needed just 1:09 to earn the victory. Winston-Salem State hit -.027 in the match.

Sophomore Courtney Hott (Fredericksburg, Va.) added eight kills and hit .429 for VCU, while freshman Marisa Low (Carlsbad, Calif.) chipped in with 10 digs and four of the Rams nine service aces.

Ashley Harris led Winston-Salem State with six kills.

VCU returns to the court on Saturday, Sept.  26, when it begins Colonial Athletic Association play at William & Mary in Williamsburg, Va. at 2 p.m.
