AMBERT THREE-PEAT’S AT STATE INDOOR TOURNAMENT
12-11-08
RICHMOND, Va. – He may be coaching tennis these days, but every once and a while, Romain Ambert proves he can still play.
Ambert, in his fourth year as an assistant coach for VCU, used the Country Club of Virginia as his proving ground again Wednesday when he picked up his third consecutive SMARTBOX Virginia State Indoor Championship.
A former All-American at Mississippi State, Ambert defeated Carl Clark, 6-0, 7-6 (7-4) to earn the title and $1,000 first prize.
Ambert’s win completes a VCU sweep of sorts at the championships. Tuesday, former Rams’ All-American Tatsiana Uvarova captured the women’s singles crown.
Clark, the Country Club of Virginia’s head tennis pro, and Ambert also combined to take down the doubles title. |
