While at VCU

Sharp Shooter: Rodriguez’s accuracy from long distance came into the spotlight last year after he led the CAA in three-point field goal percentage with a .416 mark (62-for-149).

Grand Theft Rodriguez: Theft is usually a crime, but on the hardwood it creates transition baskets and Rodriguez does exactly that. His quickness on the defensive end has led to 109 career steals, including two games in which he tied a school record with seven steals (2/9/08 at Delaware and 2/2/08vs. Towson).

Stepping Up the Scoring: Rodriguez used his sophomore year as his coming out year on the offensive end, scoring nearly twice as many points per game as he did his freshman season. He also scored in double-digits on 16 occasions, including two 20-point performances (25 vs. UNC Wilmington and 20 at William & Mary).

Taking Care of the Ball: That’s one of the main keys to success at the point guard spot. Rodriguez has done that well in his first two years with a 1.2 assist-to-turnover ratio, which ranks just outside the top-10 in the CAA over that span.

The High School Days

Star in the Sunshine State: Accolades and recognition were something that Rodriguez got used to during his four years at Lake Howell, where he earned First-Team All-State honors his senior year and three straight appearances on the First-Team All-County squad.

Like a Broken Record: Rodriguez finished as Lake Howell’s all-time leader in assists and also helped the Silverhawks to a 31-3 mark during his senior year, the best mark in school history.

Always Have Bragging Rights: Unfortunately for teammate Ed Nixon, Rodriguez will always have bragging rights, after his Lake Howell squad defeated Nixon’s Lakewood team to win the Florida 5-A State Championship in 2007.

Hey I know you: Along with playing against Nixon in high school, Rodriguez also played with current teammate Terrance Saintil with the Florida Rams AAU program.
