James Kane is in his second year as video coordinator for the VCU Men’s Basketball program and third overall.

As video coordinator, Kane is charged with breaking down VCU and opponent’s game film, coordinating film exchange, preparing video for coaches’ scouting reports, as well as various edits for the staff.

During the 2006-07 season, Kane served as a graduate assistant for the Rams during their run to the CAA Championship and NCAA Tournament. He handled video coordination, assisted with player workouts, edited game film and oversaw recruiting mailers.

Prior to his arrival at VCU, Kane served as a basketball operations and scout analysis intern with the NBA’s Charlotte Bobcats in 2005. During his tenure with the Bobcats, Kane developed scouting reports, assisted in college scouting and dissected film, as well as other administrative duties.

Additionally, Kane has served as a camp intern for the University of Florida Men’s Basketball Team in 2005 and worked as a student assistant in the basketball offices at Florida.

Kane was a two-sport star at Northeast High School in Oakland Park, Fla., excelling as a four-year starter in basketball and baseball. On the basketball court as a senior, Kane averaged 24.3 points per game, ranking him in the top five in Broward County. His efforts earned him team MVP honors, as well as an all-county citation from the Sun-Sentinel. Kane was also an all-county baseball selection.

Several Division II schools offered Kane athletic scholarships to play basketball, but he chose to attend Florida on an academic scholarship. He later played on the University of Florida practice team, where he began to forge his relationship with then-Gators’ Assistant Coach Anthony Grant.

Kane, a merit scholar, earned his bachelor’s in sport management, as well as a minor in business administration, from Florida in 2005. Kane added a master’s degree in sport leadership from VCU’s SportsCenter in 2007.

He resides in Richmond.
