CAMPOS TAKES THIRD AT COPA DE LAS AMERICAS

RICHMOND, Va. - Virginia Commonwealth University senior Rafael Campos (Guaynabo, Puerto Rico) fired a final-round 69 and placed third overall to lead his native Puerto Rico at the Fourth Copa de las Americas in Buenos Aries, Argentina.
Campos finished a 2-under par 286 (69-74-74-69) at the 72-hole championship. He led after the first two days of competition and chipped in for eagle on the final hole of the tournament. Campos finished one stroke ahead of Peter Uihlein (287), who is the No. 1 ranked U.S. amateur golfer, and two in front of Nathan Smith (288), who is ranked second nationally.
Puerto Rico placed seventh at the 15 team championship, while the United States defended its team title.
Campos is a two-time All-CAA First Team member who helped lead the Rams to the 2009 league championship. He’s captured two tournament victories at VCU and has eight top-five finishes in his decorated VCU career.
