Box Score
RICHMOND, Va. – Richmond’s Megan Thompson broke free up the right side and scored 1:24 into overtime to give the Spiders a 3-2 victory over hard-luck Virginia Commonwealth University Wednesday at Crenshaw Field.
The Rams lost in overtime for the fourth time this season to fall to 4-10. The Spiders snapped a five-match skid and improved to 4-9.
VCU had taken a 2-1 lead in the match when sophomore Rosan van Eijkelenburg (Middleburg, Holland) tapped in a goal in the 53rd minute off a penalty corner.
However, in the 65th minute, Thompson received a feed from Dani Pycroft and slapped in a reverse stick shot to knot the score at 2-2.
Sophomore Marle van Dessel (Oisterwijk, Netherlands) also scored her 11th goal of the year for VCU. Trailing 1-0, van Dessel ran onto a ball deep in the Richmond zone and chipped a shot over a diving goalkeeper.
VCU returns to Colonial Athletic Association play this Friday, Oct. 17 when it meets sixth-ranked James Madison at 6 p.m. in Harrisonburg, Va.
