RICHMOND, Va. – It may have been Senior Day at Cary Street Field, but it was a pair of underclassmen that stole the spotlight Sunday.

Junior Rachel Krumm (Norfolk, Va.) (pictured, above) and sophomore Marle van Dessel (Oisterwijk, Netherlands) scored second-half goals as Virginia Commonwealth University closed its season with a 2-0 victory over Northeastern.

VCU caps its 2008 campaign with a 5-14 mark, including 1-7 in the Colonial Athletic Association. Northeastern is 7-13, as well as 1-7 in the league.

Senior Laura Baker (Kent, England) made seven saves to record her fourth career shutout for the Rams.

Five minutes into the second half, Krumm finished off a perfectly executed penalty corner from senior Alaina Vernetti (Fredericksburg, Va.) and Flore van Dessel (Oisterwijk, Netherlands) to break a scoreless tie.

In the 59th minute, Marle van Dessel spun loose at the top of the circle and fired a reverse stick shot into the upper left-hand corner of the goal.

Prior to the match, the Rams honored seniors Vernetti, Baker, Nikki Hollibaugh (Spotsylvania, Va.), Megan Sauder (Lititz, Pa.) (pictured, right) and Nina Banaag (Virginia Beach, Va.), who saw their final action in a VCU uniform.

Colleen Duffy made five saves for the Huskies.
