RAMS FALL TO HOFSTRA, 3-2, IN OVERTIME

RICHMOND, Va. – Sophomore twins Flore and Marle van Dessel each notched a goal to take Virginia Commonwealth University to overtime against Hofstra, but the Pride proved too much to handle as the Rams fell 3-2 at Cary Street Field.
The VCU defense held off Hofstra for over ten minutes of overtime before Erica Suitch tipped in a shot deflected off the stick of teammate Amy-Lee Levey from a penalty corner. With the third straight overtime loss, VCU falls to 4-7 and 0-3 in the conference.
Keeper Laura Baker helped keep the Rams alive for over 80 minutes with 14 saves, tying her career high.
Flore van Dessel scored her first career goal off a penalty stroke five minutes in the second half to give the Rams a 2-1 lead. Hofstra’s Levey was able to tie it up at the 55:12 mark after knocking in a rebound.
The Pride recorded eight different players with shots and three different players with goals. The Rams were out-shot 18-10 and out-cornered 15-5.
The Rams return to action Sunday, Oct. 5 at 1 p.m. as they take on Drexel University at Cary Street Field. |
