NEWARK, Del. – Sophomore Rosan van Eijkeleburg (Middleburg, Holland) scored her third goal of the year, but it couldn’t prevent Virginia Commonwealth University from dropping its second straight overtime contest, 2-1, at Delaware Sunday.

VCU has lost four straight to fall to 4-6 overall and 0-2 in the Colonial Athletic Association. The Black and Gold were coming off a 4-3 double overtime loss to Towson Friday. Delaware is 2-7 overall and 1-1 in league action.

Van Eijkelenburg’s score came seven minutes in the second half and was set up by sophomore Marle van Dessel (Oisterwijk, Netherlands).

The goal tied the game a 1-1, where it remained until the Blue Hens’ Alexis Esbitt found paydirt 12:10 into overtime.

The Rams owned advantages in shots, 14-13, and penalty corners, 9-3, but Delaware keeper Nikki Rhoades made 10 saves in goal.

This is the second straight year this game has produced a dramatic ending. Last season, the Blue Hens rallied past VCU for a 5-4 double overtime win at Cary Street Field.

The Rams return home next weekend to face Hofstra on Friday, Oct. 3 at 3 p.m. at Cary Street Field.
