JONES’ TWO GOALS NOT ENOUGH IN LOSS AT DAVIDSON

DAVIDSON, N.C. – Junior Lindsay Jones (Springfield, Va.) scored the first two goals of her career, but it wasn’t enough to lift Virginia Commonwealth University in a 4-2 loss to Davidson Saturday at Carol Grotnes Belk Turf field.

Jones gave the Rams a 1-0 lead 21:51 into the contest when she took a feed from sophomore Rosan van Eijkelenburg (Middleburg, Holland) and scored from five yards out.

But the Wildcats (2-2) scored three straight goals to close the first half to take a 3-1 lead into the break.

Early in the second half, Jones pulled the Rams (2-1) within 3-2 when she knocked in a shot from the left side of the cage. However, VCU could get no closer.

Davidson out shot the Rams, 11-4, and out cornered the Rams, 6-3. Kathelijn van der Ven had a goal and two assists for the Wildcats.

VCU returns to action when it meets Radford on Sunday, Sept. 7 at 2 p.m. in Davidson, N.C.
