Box Score
HARRISONBURG, Va. – The Virginia Commonwealth University field hockey team dropped a 3-0 decision to No. 11 James Madison Friday night at the JMU Field Hockey Complex.
The Dukes scored twice in the first half and once in the second and outshot the Rams 19-5 in the match.
VCU falls to 6-6 for the season after the loss, including 1-4 in the Colonial Athletic Association. The Rams have lost four straight. JMU moves to 9-4.
The Dukes came out the better team tonight, overpowering the Rams’ attempts to score. VCU keeper Megan Botteri (Mount Bethel, Pa.) played all 70 minutes for the Rams and racked up four saves.
Despite the loss, VCU Head Coach Kelly McQuade liked her team’s intensity Friday against JMU, the third ranked opponent the Rams have faced this year.
“We definitely turned it around tonight,” McQuade said. “We are back up to our level of hockey and our defense put together a good game.”
The Rams will return home to Cary Street Field on Sunday, Oct. 11 when they take on the Wildcats of Davidson at 1 p.m. |
