8-22-09

RICHMOND, Va. – Junior Marle van Dessel (Oisterwijk, Netherlands) picked up where she left off last season, providing the decisive goal in Virginia Commonwealth University’s 4-3 win over Radford Saturday in a season-opening scrimmage for both teams.

Van Dessel, who scored three game-winning goals during the regular season last year, was a Second Team All-Colonial Athletic Association pick in 2008.

Senior Rachel Krumm (Norfolk, Va.) scored one goal and assisted on another for the Rams. In addition, freshmen Kelsey Scherrer (Chesapeake, Va.) and Meg Neylon (Fredericksburg, Va.) each scored once for VCU.

The Rams kick off their regular season under third-year Head Coach Kelly McQuade on Saturday, Aug. 29 against Miami (OH) in Charlottesville at 1 p.m.
