VCU FROSH SCHERRER NAMED CAA CO-ROOKIE OF THE WEEK
9-8-09
RICHMOND, Va. –Virginia Commonwealth University freshman Kelsey Scherrer (Chesapeake, Va.) picked up Colonial Athletic Association Co-Rookie of the Week honors Tuesday, the league announced.
Scherrer was one of the driving forces behind VCU’s weekend sweep of a pair of Philadelphia schools, victories that improved the Rams to 3-0 this season.
Scherrer, a 5-1 forward, scored her first two career goals on Friday, Sept. 4, when she helped VCU salt away a 4-1 win over Saint Joseph’s. Two days later, she kicked in her first assist in a 4-1 win at Penn.
Behind the solid play of Scherrer and others, the Rams are 3-0 for the first time since the 1989 season.
A three-time All-State selection at Cape Henry Collegiate School, Scherrer was tabbed a Second Team High School All-American as a senior last season.
Scherrer and VCU return to action on Friday, Sept. 11, when they head to the University of Iowa Tournament in Iowa City to meet the host Hawkeyes. That match starts at 8 p.m. EST.
