USA In Action in Denmark (USA Field Hockey)

LYNGBY, Denmark - Virginia Commonwealth University freshman goalkeeper Megan Botteri (Mount Bethel, Pa.) helped the USA Women’s National Indoor Field Hockey Team to a fourth place finish at the 2010 Wasa Cup.

On Monday, Jan. 4, the U.S. squad narrowly missed out on a chance to capture third place when they fell to Sweden, 3-1. The United States had already defeated the Swedes, 4-2 in pool play on Jan. 2, as well as 5-1 in a pre-tournament match on Jan. 1. That Jan. 1 contest with Sweden also served as Botteri’s first international cap.

The Rams’ keeper enjoyed a successful first year for a rising VCU program. Botteri started all 17 matches for the Rams and posted a 2.14 goals-against-average, as well as a .724 save percentage.

Botteri and her USA teammates will play a handful of exhibitions before returning stateside. The Wasa tournament is part of USA Head Coach Shawn Hindy’s preparations for the 2010 Pan Am Games, which will be played in Venezuela in August.  The U.S. captured the silver medal at the 2009 Pan Am Games.
