Eligibility

Student-athletes at VCU should be familiar with the rules and regulations developed by the NCAA and the Colonial Athletic Association regarding academic and amateurism eligibility, registration with the NCAA Eligibility Center and financial aid. For a complete description of compliance guidelines, visit the NCAA’s Eligibility Center Web site.

International students

International student-athletes should download the Guide to International Academic Standards for Athletics Eligibility [PDF] for eligibility requirements for students who have completed any portion of their secondary education in a non-U.S. educational system, including graduation, core curriculum, grade-point average and ACT and SAT test scores.

Transfer students

To help ease the transition of transferring, the NCAA has developed a guide for transfer student-athletes [PDF] with basic information about transferring to an NCAA college, including identifying your transfer student status, obtaining academic records and getting permission to talk to another school.

Summer leagues

As a student-athlete, you must adhere to the NCAA rules for participating in summer competition or risk your continued eligibility at VCU. To review your team’s restrictions for summer leagues, download and review the appropriate regulations form below. If you have any questions, contact your head coach.

Professional drafts, agents and tryouts

Current student-athletes who are also eligible for the Major League Baseball first-year player draft or to try out for professional teams in the National Basketball Association must comply with the NCAA’s draft, agent and tryout requirements. You may risk affecting your intercollegiate eligibility if you agree to be represented by an agent, accept any benefits from an agent or miss class to participate in a tryout, among other circumstances.

Before participating in professional drafts and tryouts or contacting an agent, read the appropriate memorandum below and follow the guidelines to ensure your eligibility at VCU.
