As part of its drug-prevention programs and commitment to creating a drug-free environment, the NCAA conducts year-round drug testing of student-athletes during both the academic year and summer months.
Every Division I institution is subject to drug testing at least once each academic year, but may be selected for testing more than once during the year. Division II institutions that sponsor football are subject to drug testing at least once each academic year, while those not sponsoring football will be selected at least once every two years.
Testing process
Institutions will be notified of drug testing no more than two days prior to the testing event and students may be selected on the basis of position, athletics financial aid status, competitive ranking, playing time or an NCAA-approved random selection.
