HAUSER NAMED COLONIAL ATHLETIC ASSOCIATION BASEBALL ROOKIE OF THE WEEK

RICHMOND, Va. – Virginia Commonwealth University freshman right-handed pitcher Blake Hauser was named Colonial Athletic Association Rookie of the Week after recording his first collegiate victory Saturday against Fairfield University.

A 25th round selection by the Cleveland Indians in last June’s Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft, Hauser scattered three hits and allowed one earned run in seven innings in his second start of the season.  He struck out four batters and did not surrender a walk, while limiting opponents to a .130 batting average.

It is the second straight weekly honor for the VCU baseball program as senior second baseman Richard Gonzalez received CAA Co-Player of the Week recognition after his performance in the Rams’ season-opening series victory at Charleston Southern.

VCU split a four-game series against Fairfield last weekend and returns to action on Friday when it hosts Cleveland State in the first of a three-game set beginning at 3 p.m. at The Diamond.
